Assisted Residential Aged Care
Accommodation payments
In accordance with new government regulations, from 01 July 2014 a resident can decide to pay for their accommodation via three systems. These vary on individual circumstances:
- a RAD or Refundable Accommodation Deposit (formerly known as a bond) which paid as a lump sum.
- a DAP or Daily Accommodation Payment which accrues daily and is paid periodically e.g. fortnightly.
- a Combination of RAD and DAP which includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments.
For example, for a single Lodge room (18m2 + ensuite) the payment could be:
– a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) of $425,000
– a Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) of $97.34
This is calculated by multiplying the RAD by the MPIR* then dividing by 365
e.g. ($425,000 x 7.61%) / 365 = $88.61 per day
– a Combination e.g. 60% RAD + 40% DAP
In this situation the RAD = $255,000
And the DAP = ($170,000 x 7.61%) / 365 = $35.44 per day
Standard rate: All residents pay a Basic Daily Fee as determined by the Department of Social Services which is currently $65.55 per day.
